Alexander MacLeod has been shortlisted for the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award for his Scotiabank Giller Prize“nominated collection, Light Lifting (Biblioasis). The Frank O’Connor Award is “presented each year to an original collection of stories judged to be the most accomplished.”
This is the seventh year for the €35,000 prize, which will be presented Sept. 18 at the Cork International Short Story Festival. MacLeod is the only Canadian represented on the shortlist, which also includes:
- Gold Boy, Emerald Girl by Yiyun Li (U.S.)
- Saints and Sinners by Edna O’Brien (Ireland)
- Death is Not an Option by Suzanne Rivecca (U.S.)
- The Empty Family by Colm TóibÃn (Ireland)
- Marry or Burn by Valerie Trueblood (U.S.)
