New website dreams of becoming Rotten Tomatoes for books

idream

The book world now has its own version of rottentomatoes.com, thanks to a new review aggregation website, I Dream Books.

The site, which launched last week, collects book reviews from critics and professional publications to discern the best (and worst) of new titles each week.

Books are rated based on an aggregated score of all reviews. Newbies aren’t welcome; the site states it only allows submissions from reviewers at high quality publications or blogs that have been around for at least a year.

In a quick browse for some Canadian titles, Quillblog discovered Hugh Brewster’s Guilded Lives, Fatal Voyage received a positive 76 per cent (a score of over 70 per cent signals a good rating), while Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers sits at 42 per cent.

In what may be a surprise to some, E.L. James’s Fifty Shades of Grey received a score of only 30 per cent.
