This cover has caught my eye over and over both online and in bookshops: a perfectly executed play of the bright-yellow translucent balloon with expertly manipulated type showing behind it. And how about that type? Playing against expectations for the genre and using a bold, black, sans serif for fiction? Brilliant! The balloon is such a great symbol as well: innocence, transience, lightness, attachment (and, by extension, duty) … Like many of my favourite covers, it’s clear enough to set a tone, but open enough to invite interpretation.
