The Media Production Services division is actively involved in the day-to-day publishing efforts of the business units. The division is comprised of five functional areas: Technology Services, Pre-media Services, Rights & Acquisitions, Content and Media Production and Manufacturing Services.


As Digital Production Manager, you are responsible for the day to day production and maintenance of the online products for Nelson’s K-20 business. You will participate in the planning, production, and deployment of a variety of digital products and assets, providing overall workflow/scheduling expertise and cost effective solutions with the goal of ensuring all projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to Nelson’s quality standards. The position requires hands-on project management skills, high attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work with technical and non-technical staff and vendors. Key to the success of this position is the ability to work well under pressure, manage competing priorities, and thrive in a technical and quick-changing environment.

  • Gather project requirements; create project plan
  • Create and monitor project schedule
  • Obtain and monitor production cost estimates
  • Analyze/interpret author content; make recommendations for most appropriate digital solution of raw content
  • Manage production of content to digital format (examples: eBooks, html assets, quizzing, interactivities, video, audio, etc.)
  • Problem solve/troubleshoot issues throughout production
  • Coordinate QA of products and assets
  • Support and maintain product post-live
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and external vendors
  • Ensure data integrity within back end systems and databases

  • Post Secondary Degree
  • 2 years’ experience ideally in a digital production / publishing environment
  • Thorough understanding of project management best practices, tools, and systems
  • Computer proficiency: MS Office Suite, FileMaker, Confluence, Jira
  • Understanding of web technology: html5, css, xml
  • Experience with various media formats and deliverables (epub3, MP4s, interactivities, animations, online quizzing and assessments)
  • Understanding of WCAG 2.0 accessibility guidelines
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems
  • Experience managing 3rd party vendors
  • Ability to problem solve and manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Collaborative strength – should embrace, support and practice a collaborative style
