SIMON & SCHUSTER CANADA INTERNSHIPS

Simon & Schuster Canada offers four full-time, paid ($17.20/hour) internships running from January to June and July to December. The internship program offers behind-the-scenes and hands-on experience within the world of book publishing. Interns will be placed within a variety of areas including editorial, marketing, and sales and in those departments, they will be able to explore all aspects of the industry. While guided by a mentor they will experience "a day in the life" of an entry level assistant and will engage in work that contributes to their professional growth.

Interns will be included in key department and company meetings and will be able to contribute to ongoing projects. They will gain valuable industry experience, develop important connections, and make an important contribution to the publishing process.

No prior experience in publishing is required but a love of books and storytelling is a must.

EDITORIAL 

This Simon & Schuster Canada internship is an excellent opportunity for someone specifically interested in the editorial process. We are looking for an energetic individual with an eye for detail, a knowledge of proofreading and copyediting, and a keen interest in publishing. The appropriate candidate will be an independent, confident, and adaptable worker and an enthusiastic reader of both Canadian and international fiction and non-fiction.

Responsibilities include: assisting the editorial team, reading and responding to submissions, proofreading and copyediting book material (cover copy, tip sheets, etc.), checking page proofs, researching book ideas, and writing copy. The editorial intern will participate in editorial meetings and launch meetings, and perform a variety of administrative tasks (photocopying, mailing, etc.) as needed.

MARKETING -

Simon & Schuster Canada is looking for creative, social media savvy, highly motivated intern for a marketing internship. As a marketing intern you will gain hands-on experience in various areas of brand marketing, book marketing, social media, content marketing, and digital advertising. The ideal applicant will have solid written and verbal communication skills, be highly organized and able to multitask, possess a strong knowledge of the digital media landscape including various social media platforms, and have a keen eye for content creation and design.

Responsibilities include: Supporting the marketing team with research, mailings, admin and other tasks, creating engaging social media content including visually compelling Instagram photos and TikTok videos, working with the marketing team to implement seasonal campaigns, assisting the digital marketing team on various projects, and collaborating with colleagues in publicity, editorial, and sales as needed.

SALES –

Simon & Schuster Canada is looking for data-loving, motivated intern for a sales internship. Our sales internship offers the successful candidate an opportunity to learn about the publishing industry in a dynamic and interactive way, supporting and collaborating with sales and operations departments, while getting acquainted with other departments including marketing, editorial, and publicity.

As a sales intern you will gain hands-on professional experience with day-to-day reporting, sales pitches, forecasting, creating catalogues, and administrative tasks, as well as preparing for sales conferences, special projects, and more. The ideal candidate is someone who has strong organizational skills, leans into problem-solving, leads with creativity and curiosity, loves data and finding stories in the numbers, and has a basic knowledge of Excel and wants to learn more.

PUBLICITY 

Simon & Schuster Canada is looking for a creative, motivated intern for a publicity internship. Our publicity internship offers the successful candidate an opportunity to learn about the publishing industry in a dynamic and interactive way, supporting and collaborating with publicists, while getting acquainted with other departments including marketing, editorial, and sales.

As a publicity intern you will gain hands-on professional experience with day-to-day research, outreach, development of press materials, and administrative tasks, as well as author events, special projects, and more.

Internships are full-time, five days per week (37.5 hours). Simon & Schuster Canada operates on a hybrid work model which includes spending part of the week in person at our King Street office in Toronto.
