June 1 – Aug 31, 2018 (training on May 21 and 28)

Part-time, 20 hours/week

The Literary Press Group of Canada, a not-for-profit association of 60 Canadian literary publishers, is seeking an intern for a 3-month part-time paid term. The intern will be required to work 20 hours per week and how they complete that time has some flexibility. This position starts with two days of training in May, launches officially on June 1, and continues through August 2018.

The intern’s primary task will be coordinating a marketing experimentation grant involving two groups of member publishers, ones participating in a collective initiative and ones undertaking their own marketing and promotion activities.

The intern’s responsibilities related to the grant will include:

  • liaising with participating publishers, vendors, project partners, and customers
  • reporting book sales
  • designing marketing materials
  • physically stocking books (some lifting of boxes will be required)

In addition, the intern will have the opportunity to write for the LPG’s online property, All Lit Up, and contribute to its social media channels. Other administrative tasks will vary and may include archiving, contracts, and proofreading. This position requires a candidate with skills in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) and editorial experience (copywriting, proofreading) is an asset.

The LPG’s office is currently located in publishers’ alley, at 425 Adelaide Street West, near Spadina, and shares office space with Magazines Canada. During the internship term, the LPG will be moving offices (location TBD, will remain TTC-accessible). This internship will involve interacting with publishers across the country. The position involves working with all of LPG’s staff of five, and with LitDistCo’s General Manager. The LPG’s environment is open-concept and collaborative.

The LPG is an equal opportunity employer and strongly supports and values diversity in the workplace. Applications from all qualified candidates are welcome and individuals from equity-seeking groups are encouraged to apply.

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume to LPG Executive Director Christen Thomas: christen@lpg.ca. Applications and queries will be kept confidential. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. The deadline for applications is April 2, 2018.
