Located in Kitchener, Library Services Centre (LSC) is Canada’s largest supplier of bibliographic materials and processing services to public libraries. In book industry terms, we are one of Canada’s largest book (and video and music) wholesalers.  In library terms we are one of the largest technical services centres for public libraries in North America.  LSC is a not-for-profit corporation whose members are public library boards. We have the following full-time permanent position available:

Professional Services Manager

Manages two important departments at LSC:

  • Selection services department
  • Cataloguing department

The Selection Services department at LSC creates all of LSC selection content and manages all of LSC’s Automatic Release Plans. It has six full time staff members who are a combination of librarians, technicians and staff with industry experience.

Management of this department will require a good deal of client contact to create and monitor the various selection projects that LSC undertakes. Strong analytical skills are also required.

The Cataloguing department at LSC creates all of the MARC records that drive LSC’s cataloguing and processing services. This is one of the largest cataloguing departments serving public libraries in Canada.  The department creates more than 50,000 MARC records annually in English, French, and more than 20 foreign languages.  There are 20 staff in a combination of full time and part time hours.  Staff include librarians, technicians, and cataloguing experts.

LSC is deeply committed to continuous process improvement. The successful candidate will be expected to constantly evolve our workflows and procedures to meet the changing needs of our libraries in the most cost effective manner possible.

The ideal candidate will be a professional librarian with some previous management or supervisory experience. Ideas and skills are more important than specific educational background.
