Between the Lines is an independent publisher of award-winning literary nonfiction on a wide range of subjects including politics, current issues, and history. Recent and upcoming books include Unsettling Canada: A National Wake-up Call by Arthur Manuel and Grand Chief Ronald M. Derrickson, Drawn to Change: Graphic Histories of Working-Class Struggle by the Graphic History Collective with Paul Buhle, and Feminist City: A Field Guide by Leslie Kern. Between the Lines is seeking a full-time Publicity and Promotions Manager to promote BTL titles to media, assist with author event planning and promotion, and assist with the sales and marketing and the general work of the press.

- develop and plan title-specific publicity activities and create engaging and effective physical and digital press kits and publicity materials;
- maintain media lists, organize media outreach, solicit book reviews, and distribute catalogues and review copies of forthcoming titles;
- manage book award submissions;
- organize and support promotional and author events, including book launches and author appearances at festivals and conferences;
- assist authors with book promotion activities;
- manage all social media accounts;
- create and maintain website content;
- collaborate with and support the Marketing and Sales Manager on regular marketing activities and initiatives, including building external partnerships, assistance with grant-writing and project plans, and other tasks, as needed;
- participate in weekly staff meetings and advisory working group meetings and editorial committee meetings approximately six times per year;
- participate in sales conferences, academic conferences, trade shows, professional development sessions, and publishing industry events.
You will need:
- ingenuity and enthusiasm for publicizing books that challenge mainstream culture and politics and promote social justice;
- excellent organization and planning skills, attention to detail, and an ability to prioritize competing tasks to meet demanding deadlines;
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- strong critical thinking and analytical skills;
- an ability to work collaboratively in a collective work environment;
- a post-secondary degree or relevant work experience;
- proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms;
- knowledge of ONIX, basic HTML, Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
This is a four day per week position in BTL’s downtown Toronto office.
