Scholastic Canada’s Trade Division is seeking a Publicity & Marketing Associate to join our energetic marketing and publicity team.

Scholastic Canada is the country's leading publisher and distributor of children's books in both official languages. For over 60 years, Scholastic Canada has introduced young people to the joy of reading with books from leading brands and authors including Robert Munsch, Dav Pilkey and J.K. Rowling.

ROLE SUMMARY

WORK LOCATION: This position would normally work out of our Toronto downtown office located at 604 King St. West. While staff are still currently working remotely due to the pandemic, we are looking to resume in-office operations in the future.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Author and illustrator care, including the organization of author tours and events with stores and libraries (virtual and in-person)
  • Pitch to media and festivals
  • Create press kits for key titles and authors
  • Manage the media mailing list and review copy mailings
  • Collaborate closely with our social media specialist on the creation of social media campaigns and posts, as well as be the back-up for social media
  • Be an integral part of the planning and execution of marketing and publicity strategies
  • Actively participate in internal sales conferences and sales strategy meetings

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-4 years of experience in the publishing industry
  • Strong familiarity with the children’s book scene in Canada (media, authors and illustrators, annual festivals, bookstores, trends, top sellers)
  • A desire to think “outside-the-box” and find new ways to engage young readers
  • An ability to work autonomously, but also the love of contributing in a team environment
  • Event experience, including a passion for logistics and a desire to execute the best experience for creators and their audience
  • A proven understanding and interest in social media as a marketing and publicity tool (Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and Facebook)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (including PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Teams)
  • Knowledge of BNC SalesData /CataList and Book Manager also an asset
  • Strong writing skills and a keen design eye
  • Valid driver’s license is an asset
