In 1845, legendary British naval officer and explorer Sir John Franklin led two ships on an expedition from England in search of the fabled Northwest Passage. The ships and their crew of 129 people were last seen in July of that year. It wasn’t until the summer of 2014 that the Victoria Strait Expedition, led by Parks Canada, made a startling discovery: the remains of the HMS Erebus. A lavishily illustrated new book chronicles the efforts of the group, the importance of the discovery, and the history behind Franklin’s ill-fated voyage.
