Jay Baruchel and Dave Bidini team up for Baseballissimo adaptation

Canadian film star and Seth Rogen buddy Jay Baruchel was named honorary captain of the Montreal Canadiens after writing and acting in the 2011 hockey flick Goon. Perhaps Baruchel will get to throw an opening-day pitch after he adapts Dave Bidini‘s 2004 memoir Baseballissimo: My Summer in the Italian Minor Leagues (McClelland & Stewart) for the big screen.

Baruchel is partnering with Montreal director Jacob Tierney (Good Neighbours) to fictionalize Bidini’s tale about spending a summer with a minor league Italian baseball team. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the adaptation “portrays a young Canadian minor league baseball player bound for major league stardom until his attitude gets in the way and he finds himself in a coastal town in Italy under odd circumstances.”

The project is being shopped this week at the American Film Market in Los Angeles. Bidini is an executive producer on the Canadian-Italian co-production, along with Rush’s Geddy Lee, which makes this project about as certifiably Canuck as they come.
