Edmonton’s Greenwoods’ Bookshoppe to close

After 33 years in business, Edmonton’s Greenwoods’ Bookshoppe & Small World is closing. Its final day of business is this Saturday.

In a post on the store’s website, Greenwoods’ co-owner Gail Greenwood writes, “My decision to close was precipitated by the recent death of my brother and business partner, Brad. He skillfully managed all store affairs and guided me on so many occasions. He was my rock.”

According to the Edmonton Journal, siblings Gail, Laurie, and Brad opened the store in 1979 with financial help from their father. Laurie left the business in 2000 and Brad passed away in June, leaving Gail as sole owner.

Tonight the store hosts its last event, a sold-out talk featuring authors David Suzuki and Jeff Rubin.
