Holdstock takes America

Another Canadian-authored book with a retooled foreign title got some notice this weekend. Pauline Holdstock’s Giller-nominated novel Beyond Measure (Cormorant Books) was featured in the New York Times Book Review, where reviewer Suzy Hansen argues that the book falters in the early going but recovers by the end. At least, that seems to be the gist of the mini-review: the book is considered within an omnibus piece that also covers three other historical novels. American publisher Norton has titled Holdstock’s novel A Rare and Curious Gift.
