Vancouver journalist Arno Kopecky has won the 2014 Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non-fiction for his second book, The Oil Man and the Sea: Navigating the Northern Gateway (Douglas & McIntyre). The $10,000 prize, administered by Wilfrid Laurier University, recognizes Canadian writers for a first or second published book.
Kopecky, who is currently up for the Lane Anderson Award, will be honoured at two receptions on Nov. 13 at Wilfrid Laurier’s Waterloo and Brantford campuses.
