Oppel and Beha make the Hans Christian Anderson Award longlist

YA author Kenneth Oppel and illustrator Philippe Béha are up for the 2014 Hans Christian Anderson Award. The biannual prize, which recognizes authors and illustrators who have made important, lasting contributions to children’s literature, is presented by International Board on Books for Young People.

Oppel is the author of over 20 books, including the Governor General’s Literary Award“winning Airborn. Quebec author and illustrator Béha, himself the recipient of two Governor General’s Literary Awards, has illustrated more than 100 French“ and English“language books.

Hailing from 34 different countries, 29 authors and 31 illustrators have been nominated for the prize, which will be announced next March at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
