Three books have been shortlisted for the Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non-fiction. Organized by Wilfrid Laurier University, the $10,000 award recognizes Canadian writers for a first or second work of creative non-fiction that includes a Canadian locale and/or significance.
The nominees are:
- Intolerable: A Memoir of Extremes, Kamal Al-Solaylee (HarperCollins Canada)
- A Thousand Farewells: A Reporter’s Journey from Refugee Camp to the Arab Spring, Nahlah Ayed (Viking Canada)
- Into the Abyss: How a Deadly Plane Crash Changed the Lives of a Pilot, a Politician, a Criminal and a Cop, Carol Shaben (Random House Canada)
The winner will be announced July 30, followed by a presentation on Nov. 13 at WLU’s Waterloo and Brantford campuses.
