The Sunburst Award Society has announced the finalists for this year’s awards. The Sunburst Award for Excellence in Canadian Literature of the Fantastic celebrates the best in fantastic literature published in Canada during the previous calendar year.

Nominees for the adult category are:

• Finton Moon, Gerard Collins (Killick Press)
• Maleficium, Martine Desjardins; Fred A. Reed and David Homel, trans. (Talonbooks)
• Over the Darkened Landscape, Derryl Murphy (Fairwood Press)
• The Blondes, Emily Schultz (Doubleday Canada)
• Westlake Soul, Rio Youers (ChiZine Publications)

Nominees for the young adult category are:

• Bright’s Light, Susan Juby (HarperCollins Canada)
• Pirate Cinema, Cory Doctorow (Tor Teen)
• The Green Man, Michael Bedard (Tundra Books)
• Seraphina, Rachel Hartman (Doubleday Canada)
• Rebel Heart, Moira Young (Doubleday Canada)

The jurors for the 2013 award are Rebecca Bradley, Tony Burgess, Shari Lapeña, Barbara Roden, and Leon Rooke. The winners receive a cash prize of $1,000.
