Five Canadian titles nominated for Banff Mountain Book awards

Five Canadian titles have risen to the top of the 2013 Banff Mountain Book Competition.

Allen Smutylo’s The Memory of Water (Wilfrid Laurier University Press) is nominated for best adventure-travel book. In the fiction category, Vivian Demuth’s poetry collection, Fire Watcher (Guernica Editions), is up against Jerry Auld’s story collection, Short Peaks (Imaginary Mountain Surveyors). Pat Morrow and Sharon Wood’s Everest: High Expectations (Bungalo Books) is nominated for best-non-fiction title, and David Jones’s Rogers Pass Alpine Guide Centennial Edition: The Heart of the Selkirk Range (High Col Press) is up for best guidebook.

A shortlist of category winners will be announced in October. The overall winner will be revealed Oct. 31 at the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival.
