Kamal Al-Solaylee wins Toronto Book Award

Kamal Al-Solaylee has been named winner of this year’s Toronto Book Award for Intolerable: A Memoir of Extremes

Kamal Al-Solaylee was announced winner of the annual Toronto Book Award this evening for his memoir, Intolerable: A Memoir of Extremes.

Now in its 39th year, the award recognizes books “of artistic or literary merit” that are in some way expressive of the city.

The shortlist and winning title were selected by the Toronto Book Awards Committee, comprising local writers Julia Chan and Diane Spivak, archivist Karen Teeple, poet and artist Tina Edan, and former Toronto Arts and Culture policy advisor Michael Booth.

The award grants $10,000 to the winner and an additional $1,000 to each shortlisted author.
