Hamilton Literary Awards finalists announced

Miranda Hill’s Sleeping Funny is a finalists for the Hamilton Literary Awards’ fiction prize

The shortlists for the 20th annual Hamilton Literary Awards have been announced, with a new award category introduced this year in honour of the late author and Hamilton literary scene fixture Kerry Schooley (also known as John Swan). Schooley, who passed away in 2010 at the age of 61, was known for his noir-fiction, including Revenge (2004), Hard Boiled Love (2003), and Iced (2001).

The Kerry Schooley Book Award recognizes stories that “capture the spirit” of Hamilton. The finalists are:

  • A Private Man, Chris Laing (Seraphim Editions)
  • Shirts and Skins, Jeffrey Luscombe (Chelsea Station Editions)
  • The Fishers of Paradise, Rachael Preston (East Point Publishing)

The finalists for the fiction award are:

The finalists for the non-fiction award are:

  • Hamilton Illustrated, David Collier (Wolsak and Wynn)
  • Haunted Hamilton, Mark Leslie (Dundurn Press)
  • Empty Cradle, Diana Walsh (Dundurn)

The winners will be announced on Nov. 12 at Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton.
