It’s only day two of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, but Montreal publisher Éditions de la Pastèque already has plenty to celebrate.
At an awards ceremony Monday night, the French-Canadian comics publisher, which launched its children’s imprint three years ago, received the Bologna Prize for the North American region. The award honours the best international publishers of the year, based on “editorial projects, professional skills, and intellectual qualities of work.”
Co-publishers Martin Brault and Frédéric Gauthier accepted the award. The press also received the Bologna Ragazzi Award in the fiction category for the picture book Le Noël de Marguerite, written by India Desjardins and illustrated by Pascal Blanchet.
Kids Can Press and Groundwood Books, along with U.S. firms Little, Brown and Company and Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, were also nominated for the Bologna Prize.
