Newfoundland’s Heritage and History Book Awards winners announced

Paul Bowdring

The Writers’ Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador announced the winners of the annual Heritage and History Book Awards at a ceremony at the Ship Pub in St. John’s last night.

The awards “acknowledge the important role of the literary arts in celebrating provincial heritage and history,” and this year recognized one work of fiction and one work of children’s/YA literature. Works of non-fiction and poetry are considered in alternate years.

Paul Bowdring won the fiction award for The Stranger’s Gallery (Nimbus Publishing), and Jennifer Morgan won the Children’s/YA Literature Award for Almost Home: The Sinking of the SS Caribou (Breakwater Books). The winning titles were selected from a shortlist of three books in each category by members and former members of the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland board of directors. Each author received a prize of $250, sponsored by the HSA.
