The Bologna Cookbook, Julia, Child among Gourmand Awards winners

made in quebecThe Canadian winners of this year’s Gourmand Cookbook Awards, which aim to honour the best titles of the genre in each country, have been announced. All winning authors will qualify for the Gourmand Best in the World competition.

The awards were created in 1995 by a group of publishing professionals who were dissatisfied with the lack of cookbooks represented at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Thirty-one Canadian English-language authors and 15 French-language authors received awards, including Julian Armstrong for Made in Quebec: A Culinary Journey (HarperCollins Canada) in the best local cuisine category; Julie Morstad and Kyo Maclear for Julia, Child (Tundra Books) in the best illustrations category; Kevin Phillips for The Bologna Cookbook (Flanker Press) in the meat category; and Judy Chan, Paul Yee, and Shaoli Wang for Chinese Fairy Tale Feasts: A Literary Cookbook (Tradewind Books) for best cookbook of the year.
