Jennifer Kingsley, an Ottawa-based naturalist and writer, is the recipient of a National Outdoor Book Award in the category of outdoor literature (non-fiction) for her debut title, Paddlenorth: Adventure, Resilience, and Renewal in the Arctic Wild, published by Vancouver’s Greystone Books.
The book chronicles Kingsley’s two-month paddling adventure with five friends in Northern Canada.
Ron Watters, chair of the U.S. headquartered National Outdoor Book Awards, said in a press release:
How do six people, dependent upon one another and placed in close quarters day after day get along on such a long journey? That’s where Kingsley’s work really shines. She paints a vivid picture of the give and take, and the concessions each person needs to make to reach the journey’s end.
