Humber College’s The Humber Literary Review has named the winners of its first Emerging Writers Fiction Contest.

Author Kathryn Kuitenbrouwer judged the winning entries from an 11-story longlist selected by the publication’s editorial collective.

  • First prize: Brittany Smith, “Sand”
  • Second prize: Mahak Jain, “In Transit”
  • Third prize: George Wilder, “English Lessons”

The three winning stories will appear in the Review‘s spring 2016 issue. Honourable mentions – Christopher Evans’ “Cakewalk,” Michael Goldlist’s “Pasha and Dr. Mack Probe the Universe and Themselves,” and Michael Melgaard’s “A Pregnancy” – will be published online.
