Hexslinger author Gemma Files

Two Canadian fantasy writers have been named winners of the 2015 Shirley Jackson Awards‚ based in Boston and recognizing published work in the genres of suspense‚ horror‚ and the dark fantastic.

Toronto horror writer and poet Gemma Files‚ known for her Hexslinger trilogy‚ won in the novel category for Experimental Film (ChiZine Publications)‚ about a woman’s search for the connection between a vanished 20th-century socialite and one of Canada’s first female filmmakers.

Simon Strantzas‚ a self-proclaimed “weird fiction” writer from Toronto‚ won in the edited anthology category for his sixth book and second anthology‚ Aickman’s Heirs (Undertow Publications)‚ a collection bringing together strange tales in the vein of Robert Aickman.

The authors will be recognized at Readercon 27: Conference on Imaginative Literature in Quincy‚ Massachusetts, on July 10.
