Awards: Pauline Holdstock and Dawn Green win Victoria Book Awards

Sketches_ver03B.C. authors Pauline Holdstock and Dawn Green were presented with 2016 City of Victoria Book Prizes at a ceremony on Oct. 12.

Holdstock‚ a two-time Scotiabank Giller Prize nominee‚ received the $5,000 Victoria Butler Prize for The Hunter and the Wild Girl (Goose Lane Editions)‚ about a feral girl in the forests of 19th-century France. Judges called it “a dark fairy tale affirming the persistence of life, the power of human connection, and the fundamental urge to be free.”

Green was recognized with the $5,000 Bolen Books Children’s Book Prize for In the Swish (Red Deer Press)‚ a story of young friendships and new starts in the world of competitive girls’ basketball.
