Erin Moure, Alexandra Risen among 2018 Kobzar Literary Award finalists

The shortlist for the 2018 Kobzar Literary Award, a biennial $25,000 prize that recognizes the best Ukrainian-Canadian stories, has been announced:

  • Lisa Grekul and Lindy Ledohowski, eds., Unbound: Ukrainian Canadians Writing Home, (University of Toronto Press)
  • Bohdan S. Kordan, No Free Man: Canada, the Great War and the Enemy Alien Experience (McGill-Queen’s University Press)
  • Natalia Khanenko-Friesen, Ukrainian Otherlands: Diaspora, Homeland, and Folk Imagination in the Twentieth Century (University of Wisconsin Press)
  • Erín Moure, Kapusta (House of Anansi Press)
  • Alexandra Risen, Unearthed: Love, Acceptance, and Other Lessons from an Abandoned Garden (Viking Canada)

The finalists will read from their nominated works at an event in conjunction with the International Festival of Authors on Oct. 21 at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre. The Shevchenko Foundation will present the winner at a gala in Toronto in March.
