Bodice-ripping for the charitable

Presented each year by Harlequin Enterprises to five lucky ladies, the More Than Words Award celebrates community spirit in conventional and not-so-conventional ways. Now in its second year, More Than Words is awarded to founders of community organizations and carries not only a $10,000 purse to be put toward programming but also a place in the Harlequin pantheon. According to Andrew Adam Newman of The New York Times, award recipients are interviewed by popular Harlequin authors who then give sexy prose renderings of the women’s lives in this “unlikely amalgam of Harlequin’s marketing, sales, editing and corporate-giving departments.” One may only guess as to what the award statuettes look like.
