D&M unveils The Sentimentalists redesign

Before Johanna Skibsrud’s The Sentimentalists won the Scotiabank Giller Prize last week, publisher Gaspereau Press maintained that it wouldn’t trump production values for expediency. But the tiny Nova Scotia press has found a compromise in its deal with Vancouver’s Douglas & McIntyre, which announced this morning that it will reprint 30,000 copies of the sought after novel on “high-quality FSC eco-paper.”

The cover for the new edition, designed by D&M art director Peter Cocking, sticks close to the original, featuring the same bisected engraving of a Vietnam soldier by Ontario artist Wesley Bates. However, the two-tone image and title have an added dash of colour; and, of course, the ubiquitous Giller seal has been included.
