Fresh off a major sponsorship announcement last week, the Writers’ Trust of Canada revealed today that it has secured a grant from Amazon.ca to support the charitable organization’s work in promoting Canadian writing.
The one-time, $15,000 donation from Amazon will go toward two key initiatives administered by the Writers’ Trust: the Berton House Writers’ Retreat, which offers residencies to four Canadian authors each year in Dawson City, Yukon, and the Writers’ Trust Engel/Findley Award, which celebrates mid-career authors for their bodies of work. Last year’s winner of the $25,000 prize, created in 2008 by merging two prior awards, was Miriam Toews.
In a press release, Amazon.ca director John Nemeth said: “The Writers’ Trust of Canada has been a bulwark of support for the Canadian author and publishing community for many years. We are proud to be able to help the organization support the creation of great new works.
Amazon.ca is also a supporter of the Writers’ Trust’s annual fundraising gala, Politics and the Pen.
