James Moore re-appointed as heritage minister; Charlie Angus calls for increased arts funding

The new Conservative federal cabinet was sworn in today, with few surprises. On the arts and culture front, James Moore was once again named minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

Moore’s re-appointment comes a day after NDP MPs Charlie Angus and Andrew Cash “ who used to play together in the Toronto band L’Étranger “ called for increased arts funding. During the press conference, Angus also referenced the controversial copyright act Bill C-32, which was killed in March when the election was called.

“We’re going to examine the bill, we’re going to do due diligence with the bill, and we’re going to ensure that it’s a bill that reflects the needs of artists and reflects the needs of average Canadians,” Angus said.
