Sheila Heti, Misha Glouberman, and Kate Beaton bring Canadiana to U.S. stages

U.S. hipsters and alt-comedy fans will get a dose of Canadiana this week.

Tonight, Sheila Heti and Misha Glouberman are launching their book, The Chairs Are Where The People Go (D&M Publishers), in Los Angeles. The Toronto duo will read as part of a special Trampoline Hall event, which will also include lectures by actors Busy Philipps (Dawson’s Creek, Cougar Town) and Ezra Buzzington (Fight Club, Ghost World). There is a Toronto book launch on July 27 at The Garrison, and in Montreal on August 2 at La Sala Rossa.

On the other coast, comic artist Kate Beaton is on the line-up for Monday’s Hot Tub with Kurt Braunohler show in New York, but sadly, Braunohler’s squeaky-voiced co-host Kristen Schaal (Flight of the Conchords) won’t be in attendance. Beaton, whose collection of online comics, Hark! A Vagrant, is coming out from Drawn and Quarterly in September, will be joined by comedians Baron Vaughn, Eric Ledgin, and Adira Amram and The Experience.
