Take the Rory Gilmore reading challenge

While some critics have suggested that Mad Men and The Wire are the most literary shows to hit television, they must have forgetten Amy Sherman-Palladino’s chatty family drama Gilmore Girls, which ran for seven seasons (2001“2007).

The show followed the lives of single mom Lorelai Gilmore and her precocious daughter Rory, who was often portrayed with book in hand. An enterprising U.K. bookclub website has posted the 248 titles Rory read, or were referenced on the show, as a suggested reading list.

Several Canadian books appear on the Rory Gilmore reading challenge, including Unless by Carol Shields, Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood, Life of Pi by Yann Martel, and, perhaps most impressively, The Manticore by Robertson Davies.
