Knopf to publish new Bridget Jones novel

Chick lit’s favourite singleton, Bridget Jones, is back after 14 years.

According to Publishers Weekly, Knopf will publish Helen Fielding’s third Bridget Jones novel in November with a first print run of 250,000 copies. Together, the first two books in the series “ 1996’s Bridget Jones’s Diary and 1999’s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason “ have sold 15 million copies in 40 countries. Both titles were adapted for film, with Renée Zellweger in the title role.

Details about the untitled book’s contents haven’t been revealed, but Fielding told PW: “My life has moved on, and Bridget’s will move on, too.”

Bridget Jones’s Diary is widely credited for popularizing chick lit. Last week, a study was released that suggests the genre may have a harmful effect on women’s body image, although that didn’t stop “Bridget Jones” from trending on Twitter today.
