Simon & Schuster Canada names senior staff

Following the announcement earlier this year that Simon & Schuster had been given approval to launch a Canadian publishing program, the publisher has revealed the senior staff for its Canadian operations.

Phyllis Bruce has been named editor of Phyllis Bruce Editions, a new imprint at S&S Canada. The veteran editor was hired as a consultant at S&S last November, following her departure from HarperCollins Canada. Under her eponymous imprint at HarperCollins Canada, Bruce edited the likes of David Bergen, Charlotte Gray, Helen Humphreys, Dianne Warren, and Richard B. Wright, among other award-winning authors.

Kevin Hanson, who has worked as president of S&S Canada since 2005, will take on the role of publisher. Hanson will continue to report to executive VP Michael Selleck.

“This welcome news is a reflection of the recent expansion of our operations in Canada to include editorial and publishing activities. Kevin is perfectly suited to lead Simon & Schuster Canada in this exciting endeavor, which will increase our ability to publish authors from the entire English-speaking world on a global scale,” says S&S president and CEO Carolyn K. Reidy in a press release.

Alison Clarke, formerly director of sales operations for S&S Canada,  has been named the associate publisher.
