The finalists for the 25th annual City of Vancouver Book Award, which honours books that celebrate the city’s history and culture, were announced yesterday.
Two non-fiction works, a memoir, and poetry collections comprise the shortlist.
The finalists are:
- Jancis M. Andrews, The Ballad of Mrs. Smith (Hedgerow Press)
- Brad Cran, Ink on Paper (Nightwood Editions)
- Amber Dawn, How Poetry Saved My Life: A Hustler’s Memoir (Arsenal Pulp Press)
- Harold Kalman and Robin Ward, Exploring Vancouver: The Architectural Guide (Douglas & McIntyre)
- Sean Kheraj, Inventing Stanley Park: An Environmental History (UBC Press)
The shortlist was selected by a jury consisting of Hager Books owner Andrea Davies, award-winning poet Elee Kraljii Gardener, and retired city librarian Paul Whitney.
The $2,000 prize will be presented at the Mayor’s Arts Awards Gala on Nov. 22.
