Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl), Tracy Chevalier (The Girl with the Pearl Earring), and Jo Nesbø (The Son) are the latest authors to be added to the Hogarth Shakespeare series. The series, which features contemporary interpretations of the Bard’s most famous works, commemorates the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death in April 2016.

Led by Hogarth U.K. with partners Hogarth U.S. and Knopf Canada, the joint publishing initiative launches with Jeanette Winterson’s retelling of The Winter’s Tale in October 2015, followed by Howard Jacobson’s take on The Merchant of Venice in February 2016.

The first seven writers and their corresponding works are:

  • Margaret Atwood, The Tempest
  • Tracy Chevalier, Othello
  • Gillian Flynn, Hamlet
  • Howard Jacobson, The Merchant of Venice
  • Jo Nesbø, Macbeth
  • Anne Tyler, The Taming of the Shrew
  • Jeanette Winterson, The Winter’s Tale
