Nigerian author and former Globe and Mail columnist Ken Wiwa has died at the age of 47. According to the Globe, he died in London following a stroke and illness.

In 2000, Knopf Canada published Wiwa’s memoir, In the Shadow of the Saint, which chronicled his complicated relationship with his father, Ken Saro-Wiwa, an activist executed in 1995 by Nigeria’s military government.
