Black Bond Books buys Book Warehouse flagship in Vancouver

Black Bond Books has given a reprieve to Book Warehouse’s flagship store in Vancouver.

Family-owned and operated Black Bond has purchased the book discounter’s West Broadway bookshop — its last remaining location — and will relaunch the shop with new stock on June 1. Book Warehouse CEO Sharman King began shuttering the mini-chain’s stores in March in preparation for his retirement on May 26.

In an interview with the Vancouver Courier, Black Bond co-owner Cathy Jesson says the store will undergo minor renovations, but will otherwise remain unchanged — it will even retain the Book Warehouse name. “That was why we bought it. It’s run very well for 32 years. All we want to do is be able to live up to what customers have been experiencing.”
