The winners of the 2014 Hackmatack Children’s Choice Book Awards were announced at a ceremony in Charlottetown, P.E.I. on May 30. The award presentation capped off a week of author appearances in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.
Thousands of children in Grades 4–6 throughout Atlantic Canada voted for their favourite titles from a shortlist of 40 finalists.
The 2014 winners are:
English fiction
Ashley Spires, Binky Takes Charge (Kids Can Press)
English non-fiction
Rob Laidlaw, No Shelter Here: Making the World a Kinder Place for Dogs (Pajama Press)
French fiction
Dominique Demers, Le Secret des Dragons (Dominique et Compagnie)
French non-fiction
Elise Gravel, La Mouche (Les éditions de la courte échelle)
