Random House Canada to publish The Marriott Cell by Mohamed Fahmy

Penguin Random House CanadaRandom House Canada has announced it has acquired world rights to award-winning journalist Mohamed Fahmy’s book, The Marriott Cell. It is slated for publication in fall 2015.

The Marriot Cell tells the story of the Canadian-Egyptian journalist’s arrest at the Marriott Hotel in Cairo and subsequent legal battle. Fahmy, Al Jazeera’s English bureau chief, was detained with two fellow journalists during a nighttime raid in 2013. Incarceration in Egypt’s maximum security Scorpion Prison introduced Fahmy to members of Al Qaeda, ISIS, and other fighters, including the Muslim Brotherhood’s Dr. Mohamed Badie. The Marriot Cell looks at the complex world behind the “war on terror” and the quagmire of political unrest in the Middle East. Amal Clooney, who is part of Fahmy’s legal team, will write the introduction.

The deal was arranged by Random House of Canada’s executive publisher and executive vice-president Louise Dennys and Fahmy’s legal representatives, Caroline + Gislason Lawyers LLP.
