Black ties, authors, and trivia at the Writers’ Trust gala

After surviving two weeks of award festivities, the Writers’ Trust of Canada is still in a party mood. Tonight is the organization’s fundraising gala, held at the posh Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto.

In a similar format to last year’s black-tie event, which raised over $200,000 for Writers’ Trust programs and initiatives, a Canadian author will be seated at each table. Over 40 authors are scheduled to attend, including Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Non-fiction nominee Kamal Al-Solaylee and Nino Ricci, winner of this year’s Writers’ Trust Engel/Findley Award.

And now that the literary prizes have been dispensed, there’s time for some friendly competition. One of tonight’s activities is a CanLit trivia quiz, the winner of which will be treated to dinner at Massey College with author and academic John Fraser.

If you want to play along at home, Quillblog will post the entire quiz tomorrow. For now, here is a sample question to get you started.

This award-winning author of over 20 novels and short stories also published a number of children’s books under the pseudonym Teddy Jam:
a) Hugh MacLennan
b) W.O. Mitchell
c) Gabrielle Roy
d) Matt Cohen

If you guessed Matt Cohen, Quillblog gives you a high five.
