Kids Can Press celebrates 40 years with birthday bash

scaredy-squirrelKids Can Press is celebrating its 40th anniversary as one of Canada’s children’s book publishers with a party at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre on Thursday, May 16.

The celebration, which runs from 10 to 11 a.m., will be attended by Helaine Becker, author of more than 50 titles including, most recently, The Big Green Book of the Big Blue Sea. Capping off the event will be a Happy Birthday sing-a-long with Franklin the Turtle and Scaredy Squirrel, characters from two of Kids Can’s most popular books.

The birthday party will take place during the Ontario Library Association’s Forest of Reading Festival of Trees event, where four thousand students and teachers are expected.

What better way to announce our 40th anniversary than alongside TD Canadian Children’s Book Week, Kids Can president Lisa Lyons says in a statement. To share this special day with so many children as they celebrate reading and Canadian authors is the icing on the cake.
