BookCamp Toronto to host fifth annual event

Feel like spending part of an August Saturday in a library talking about books? The fifth annual BookCamp Toronto event is happening on Aug. 24 in the University of Toronto’s Robarts Library.

Hosted by the Canadian Book Professionals’ Association and the University of Toronto’s iSchool, this year’s unconference “ a conversation, not a keynote “ is about adapting and thriving in Canadian publishing. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own discussion topics.

The free event, which takes place from 11:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., is open to all publishing professionals and book lovers. Registration is over here.

Session ideas are being posted at BookCampTO.org. Topics include alternative publishing models, the “next evolution” of epublishing, the changing role of agents, big data, employment opportunities, and more. Several “Ask Me Anything” sessions have also been proposed with creators of tech platforms for authors, freelance editors, ebooksellers, and others.

Additional session ideas can be submitted to [email protected]. Rooms will be left open in order to accommodate day-of session ideas.

Those interested in volunteering at the unconference are welcome to email [email protected].
