U.K. attention for posthumous Shields collection

The late Carol Shields’ Collected Stories gets a review in U.K.’s Guardian. Author Hermione Lee observes that “the tendency to celebrate Shields as a benign, tender, mild observer of ordinary, minor lives has not made for a perfect fit. There is a good deal of fury and resentment in her work, and she can be sharp and bitter.” Random House Canada’s domestic release of the book is imminent; unlike British publisher Fourth Estate, they’re calling it THE Collected Stories.
