Description

Robert Rose, a boutique publisher and one of North America’s leading publishers of bestselling cookbooks and health books, is seeking a Marketing & Publicity Manager to join our team located in midtown Toronto. 

The ideal candidate will be passionate about food and wellness with a love of cookbooks and health books. We work with a wide range of amazing authors and established brands — from the Edgy Veg to KitchenAid to the Hospital for Sick Children — and are looking to find someone who can create awareness of our books throughout North America.

Robert Rose is a highly collaborative environment, and the ideal candidate will get to play a role in all parts of the publishing process, from discussing acquisitions to creating publicity and marketing strategies for front list titles. You will have experience executing first-rate client care and be organized, detail-oriented, adept in time-management and able to manage competing deadlines. We are looking for a self-starter who is not afraid to pitch new ideas and partnerships and thinks outside the box.

The mandate of the Marketing & Publicity Manager is to increase exposure for our front list and backlist books through traditional publicity and online marketing channels in the US and Canada. The goal is to expand awareness of Robert Rose as a premier publisher within the North America food community.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

Digital Marketing 

  • Maintain and manage all social media platforms with an eye to the most current content strategies in the industry.
  • Develop and execute high-level social media strategies against key growth and engagement goals to build awareness of new titles and enhance awareness of key backlist titles.
  • Develop and expand influencer and brand relationships and partnerships across social media.
  • Develop, expand, maintain and manage all website content and newsletters.

Traditional Publicity 

  • Craft press releases and related PR material, pitching approx. 10-15 new titles to traditional outlets annually.
  • Responsible for developing, overseeing and executing comprehensive publicity campaigns.
  • Pitch and secure top media, including print, broadcast and online outlets.
  • Maintaining excellent relationships with authors and agents and keeping media contacts up-to-date.
  • Work closely with in-house departments including editorial, marketing, sales, production.
  • Manage freelance publicists and PR partners along with select author tours annually and author events as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain key blogger and influencer relationships.
  • Manage awards submissions and media-influencer permissions requests.

Office Management 

  • Handle general mailings and manage office supplies and tools.
  • Maintain inventory of shared backlist library.
  • Handle orders for author copies and events.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience.
  • A passion for food and wellness.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Basic knowledge of WordPress an asset.
  • Social media management experience and knowledge of automation and reporting tools.
  • Connections in the Canadian and US media and knowledge of related databases.
  • Proficiency in Meltwater is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
  • Aptitude and enthusiasm for market research and analytics.
