Lac-Megantic rebuilds town library

Before the disastrous trail derailment hit Lac-Mégantic earlier this month, the Quebec town was well on its way to building a new library. But before its scheduled move into the new building in September, the town is seeking support from the literary community to rebuild its collection, which sustained heavy damage at the current site.

The library is seeking financial contributions and book donations toward the replacement of its primarily French-language collection. (English-language book donations are also being accepted.)

In a press release, Association of English-language Publishers of Quebec executive director Julia Kater says, While the stinging loss of the community’s historical archives cannot be allayed, there is a great outpouring of support from the literary community.

Financial contributions can be made to the Fondation des Amis de la Bibliothèque de Lac-Mégantic and can be sent to either one of the following addresses:

·        3558, rue Président-Kennedy, Lac-Mégantic, Québec G6B 2W5
·        3974, rue Baie-des-sables, Lac-Mégantic, Québec G6B 1R6

Book donations should be marked Merchandise pour Lac-Mégantic and can be mailed to:
