Toronto Public Library branches remained open on May 2 after a looming strike threatened them with closure.
Contract negotiations between the Toronto Public Library Board and the Toronto Public Library Workers Union Local 4948 reached a tentative agreement Sunday night. Both will call meetings with their members to vote on ratification.
Maureen O’Reilley, president of Local 4948, said negotiations were successful in reducing the threat of library privatization but were unable to push the union’s agenda to grow services.
“You have my commitment that we will be a mighty force in the future for a better and stronger public library in Toronto,” she said in a press release.
