Access Copyright CEO Roanie Levy stepping down amid ‘restructuring’

Access Copyright president and CEO Roanie Levy, who has been with the organization for more than 20 years, will be stepping down from her role at the end of December as part of a “restructuring process,” the board announced this month.

The notice that Levy will be leaving the organization comes after the collective announced in July that the organization was looking to downsize and restructure due to ongoing revenue losses caused by changes made to the fair dealing provisions in the Copyright Act in 2012.

In announcing Levy’s departure last week, board chair Mark Lovewell thanked Levy for her commitment.

“Roanie has been and continues to be a passionate copyright champion and has worked tirelessly on behalf of Canadian creators,” Lovewell said in a statement. “During her tenure Roanie led a dedicated team advocating for creators’ rights through monumental changes. Her efforts resulted in major legal victories affirming creators’ rights.”

Access Copyright is looking for an executive director to lead the organization “through the next phase of serving Canada’s creative community.”
